![]() ![]() The winding road is a scenic highway that leads to Canyon Lake and other recreational areas. Last fall, ADOT completed a $6.5 million improvement project to State Route 88. The project focused on 17 miles of the road beginning about 3 miles east of Apache Junction to 7 miles east of Tortilla Flat. Most of that stretch is an unpaved dirt road. There is no estimated date for that stretch of the road to reopen. and 5 p.m., to allow crews time to assess the damage from recent storm runoff and prepare for future repair work, the Arizona Department of Transportation said in a news release.Īnother stretch of the road, between Tortilla Flat and State Route 188 near Roosevelt Lake already is closed for an extended period to traffic because of damage caused by flooding in some areas near a burn scar left by the Woodbury Fire, which that scorched the area this summer, ADOT said.
